Promoting North America is a Must

It’s been more than 30 years of Mexico, the United States and Canada working together, today, even with geopolitics playing a more notable role, the USMCA remains in force for another decade, subject to annual reviews.
Volatility and uncertainty are the new reality of North America and the world, and therefore, more than ever, those who promote a united region will be key to the commercial and economic future of the region.
Every minute, more than three million dollars move in trade across the region; annually, the USMCA drives two billion dollars in exchanges among the three countries. However, the relevance isn't only economic: across the nearly 25 million square kilometers spanning Mexico, the United States, and Canada, there are about 600 million people living, working and innovating.
North America is already a global powerhouse, but we must keep strengthening that narrative to preserve and expand its influence.
The level of economic and demographic interconnection between our three countries won't change. There is an advantage that we all should be paying more attention to: demographics. A young population drives innovation and consumption, sustains pension systems, and is a variable of global power.
The average age is 39.1 years in the United States, 40.8 in Canada, and 30.5 in Mexico. With a regional average of 38.9 years, North America enjoys a demographic advantage over other major economies, including Europe (44.9) and China (40.6).
North America's demographics reinforce the region's economic strength, its interconnectivity, its supply chains, and of course, the soft power that has been built over more than three decades through diplomacy, culture, and values.
Highlighting North America's strengths — economic, demographic, or cultural — will contribute positively to a new phase of USMCA with annual revisions and constant negotiating tables. It will also elevate the region as a more competitive market, a cultural space filled with tradition and creativity, and a population that innovates and can think of sustainable development.
Promoting North America as an entity that unites the region is a must because Mexico, the United States, and Canada are stronger together. As a region, we consolidate a greater global influence and position North America as a self-sustaining global powerhouse.
